In this morning's tea time video, I talk about coping with pain by remembering a remarkable woman in history Hildegard of Bingen.

For more information on Hildegard: here's an article from Christianity Today, one from Fordham University, one on her contributions to the sciences, one on her musical compositions, as well as a translation of some of her writings (new & used).
That was beautiful! I too have endured intense debilitating pain and it has definitely increased by understanding of myself, other people, and God so that I am profoundly thankful for the pain I endured. Some of my greatest blessings have grown out of the most horrific and painful experiences. It has helped me alter my response to new challenges by allowing me to thank God in the middle of it and joyfully thank him for the blessings he is preparing for me and others thru this experience. I cannot always see the benefits that are unfolding when I am lost in the pain but never once has God failed to turn it into a magnificent blessing.
