Art is Good for the Soul

Diane Cretin shares about how art is important for her family and some fun art activities.

Our family was so happy when we learned that my granddaughter's school offered art as part of the curriculum. We think creating a work of art can be good for your soul and making art is an important part of using both sides of your brain. Plus, doing art can help you defuse your stress, which is probably why adult coloring books were the number one selling product on Amazon at one time. Let's face it, we could all do with less stress these days.

There are many interesting quotes about art. Here is one of my favorites:

Our family belief that art is important is why we made art as well as P.E. a daily part of Olivia's school program while sheltering in place. Many days during his lunch hour, my husband Lee teaches Olivia art at his drafting table. They are also working on cursive, which we told Olivia could become a secret language if all kids don't learn it.

When I need to sub as the art teacher, it takes more planning. So I was happy to find visual instructions for step by step drawings. Olivia's favorites were the dog, turtle, deer, and lady bug, which we are sharing here:

I even took a turn at drawing the dog, but not while Olivia was drawing. I did not want it to become a competition about who could draw better. So, for adults reading this, you can enjoy creating art as well.

Here are Olivia's drawings of the dog and turtle. She is 8.

We hope you enjoy drawing these yourself. Take time to enjoy the process. Enjoy and stay safe.
